Overview

The Newsome-Bailey Project offers a free, holistic intervention program at no cost to qualifying students. Our program trains students academically using a combination of methodologies.

Through mentoring relationships, values such as honor, responsibility and good behavior are taught and modeled to the students. Our team members also come alongside the parents and guardians of our students to provide friendship and encouragement as requested.

Students in our program develop the cognitive learning skills needed to succeed academically and socially.

What is special about grades K through 3?

By the 3rd grade, it is critical for children to master reading. Reading underpins future learning in Middle and High School. A 3rd grade student who cannot read at grade-level is four times less likely to graduate high school by age 19 than a student who reads proficiently. Add poverty to the mix, and a student is 13 times less likely to graduate on time, and is at great risk to drop out of school.

Success can be measured in many ways.

In close partnership with our local Public Schools, the Newsome-Bailey program is conducted during the school day and in the school buildings, where students feel most comfortable.  Tutors are background-checked and are never alone with students.

At the end of each school year, students are reassessed to measure academic progress.
